Cheesy Beef Puff Pastry Twists
Ingredients
-
1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
-
250 g ground beef
-
1 small onion, finely diced
-
1 garlic clove, minced
-
½ tsp paprika
-
½ tsp garlic powder
-
½ tsp Italian seasoning
-
Salt and black pepper, to taste
-
1 tbsp tomato paste
-
100 g shredded cheddar or mozzarella
-
1 egg, beaten
-
1 tbsp sesame seeds, optional
Method
-
Cook the beef: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and ground beef and cook for 5–7 minutes, breaking up the meat, until browned and cooked through.
-
Stir in the garlic, paprika, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, tomato paste, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 1–2 minutes.
-
Transfer the beef mixture to a bowl and let it cool completely.
-
Prepare the pastry: Roll out the puff pastry into a rectangle. Spread the cooled beef mixture evenly over half of the pastry, then sprinkle generously with cheese.
-
Fold the other half of the pastry over the filling and gently press down.
-
Cut into strips about 2 cm wide. Twist each strip several times and place on a parchment-lined baking tray.
-
Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
-
Chill for 10–15 minutes while you preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
-
Bake for 18–22 minutes, until puffed and deeply golden.
-
Cool for a few minutes before serving.
Serving idea
Serve warm with garlic mayo, spicy ketchup, ranch dressing, or a creamy chili dip.
Tip: Keep the beef mixture fairly dry and let it cool before filling the pastry. Excess moisture or warm filling can make the twists soggy and difficult to handle.
